Is Browne a self-loathing man? He doesn’t come over as an especially happy man, but – once again – I’m going to resist the temptation to psychologise him (#3), as I try to work through my own tendencies to political correctness. And again, I don’t think there’s evidence from this pamphlet that Browne isn’t proud of himself. Whether he’s proud of his culture, though, given just what he has to say about life in modern Britain, perhaps remains moot.
