“Don’t do cultural relativism: stick to a level playing field, and judge everyone by the same ethical standards. Just because someone is a ‘victim’ or a ‘minority’ doesn’t excuse unethical behaviour that you wouldn’t accept in an ‘oppressor’ or a ‘majority’.”

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown tried to get him on this one on the Today programme, implying that people like Anthony Browne wanted to talk about the way in which lots of people with HIV were African, but didn’t want to talk about the fact that most child molestors were white men. But I’m not going to try and psychologise him here (see #3, below), and I will agree that there is little evidence in this pamphlet that Browne has a tendency to excuse unethical behaviour on the part of minorities.
