Shadow Cabinet, again

Via Matthew Turner’s blog I see there’s another Guardian ‘How Well Do You Know the Shadow Cabinet?‘ quiz for everyone to take. Please report your scores in the comments section.

I was disturbed to score nine out of ten, which seems indecently high for such a bunch of non-entities, and entertained to see that the one I got wrong was Tim Collins, who was the same one that I got wrong last time round. People tell me he’s repulsive, but I don’t think I know anything else about him (such as what job he does, for example). So if anyone can supply me with Tim Collins-related material, that’d be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE [6.10.2003]: A commenter has drawn my attention to the important timcollins.co.uk website. I’ve added it to the sidebar (scroll down to “In the Bin”), so readers of the Virtual Stoa can keep up with the career of this exciting up-and-coming (if underappreciated by the general public) Tory politician. There’ll be no excuse for Collins-themed ignorance this time next year. I might also keep a gentle eye out for details of his parliamentary triumphs, which are probably frequent, and underreported. We can start by studying his words at Party Conference earlier today.

  1. Chris,

9 out of 10 for me as well. Stumped, like you, by Tim Collins — a man who I did not previously know even existed.

I take it he’s not the same man as the Tim Collins recently cleared of war crimes in Iraq?

But surely Eric Pickles and Lord Strathclyde are the same (enormous, jowly, foul) man? Have they ever been seen in the same room? I think we should be told, etc.

  2. Martin: But you were stumped by Tim Collins last time, like me. (See your email message to me of 14.10.2002.) So you must have known that he existed, and then forgotten about him again. Which is hard to understand, I know.

But now, thanks to timcollins.co.uk (thanks, Matthew!) none of us need ever be in ignorance ever again. On that site you can read about how he was a company director before he turned 30! How he is, at 38, the youngest member of the Shadow Cabinet! And how he’s husband to Clare and father to Christopher! And on his diary page, it’ll tell you on which days he’s answering his constituency postbag…

  3. Having been to his lovely website, I will never forget Tim Collins ever again.I was amused to see that, to quote:

“London’s Evening Standard described Tim as “the finest Tory communications chief for more than ten years”.”

If that isn’t damning with faint praise, then I don’t know what is.

  4. 9/10, and also messed up over Tim Collins. As for Martin’s comment about Pickles and Strathclyde, I seriously doubt they’ve ever been in the same room together, because should this event happen they’d probably try and eat each other.

I don’t know what the Tory position on cannibalism is, but the resulting by-election would no doubt be even more of an embarrassing affair than Eastleigh.

  5. 5/10

I know less about the tories than you. 🙂

Oh and I got Tim Collins wrong even after I visited his web site. Instantly forgetable…
