  2. The detective novels I didn’t know about. She joins a small band of rarefied types, donnish if not always dons, including Mgr Ronald Knox, Cecil Day-Lewis, Bruce Montgomery [’Edmund Crispin’] and J. I. M. Stewart who produced them. Scope for a small thesis here but it has almost certainly been done.
